New Discoveries

Having just realized that I can title each individual post, I was inspired to write about new events and opportunities that are prompted by the life of an Air Force brat. While not all of these tidbits will be as important and amazing as the title of posts, they are fairly important to my life and making me the woman --ish-- I am today.

Probably one of the most impressing ordeals would be the moves. I have always been a pretty shy girl and it takes me quite a while to warm up to new people. So, moving to a new school and neighborhood was a little stressful. You never know what to expect; and unfortunately, I have learned the hard way that first impressions are not always correct. I was so afraid of the judgment that new students faced the first day they walked into the classroom. I know how that was for there were many times when I was the one doing the judging. You can't help it when someone new comes to school. Are they weird? Are they cool? Would I want to be seen talking to this person? There was always the chance that one could be popular at one school and move to another and be stuck with the outcasts.

It was not always the worst to be the one doing the moving away. I have seen many a friend make the move out of my life. It can be strange to be in the same environment with some of the same friends, and realizing that things would not be the same. The worst is when everyone realizes that the one that moved away was the one that held the group together.

For fear of sounding ungrateful --and slightly neurotic-- I will iterate that I am thankful for the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. You can learn a lot about yourself by being placed in new situations. I welcome new experiences, I love to learn new things and am fortunate to have had many great friends in my life, even if they did come and go.

Life as an Air Force brat is filled with excitement. The most amazing thing is definitely the perpetual moving. I've had the opportunity to live in some amazing places, inside and outside the United States. You are stationed for a few years in one location and then you get orders somewhere else. It is a constant adventure getting to see new and exciting places.

There is a downside to this though. I have become accustomed to leaving a place every few years. We have been in Ohio for five years now. That's 3 years too long.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ohio, but I just get antsy living in one place for a while. I'm not sure if this is a sort of an ADD thing or what it is. I honestly do not know what I am going to do once my father retires. I am going to need to find a career that will allow me to travel quite often.
